Musical Background:

I was raised in a harmonious family where music and musical instruments always played a very important role. I started examining music when I was about five years old by trying to get some rhythm out of cardboard boxes. After a while I thought it was time to take it a bit more seriously by grabbing a real instrument. Because a real drum-kit was not feasible at the time and we still had an old bass guitar busy doing nothing, I decided it was time to get some music out of it. After practising for a about a year I also started playingwith other people (I don’t think we could already call ourselves musicians at that time).

When I was about thirteen years old, I moved with my parents to a nice new home in the woods nearby Eindhoven. It became clear that this new home also offered lots of opportunities for a “real” drum-kit. It took me about a year to convince my parents that I really needed this kit. I bridged the time by playing on all sorts of books and drawing boxes that I exposed on my desk as some sort of drum-kit. By then I seriously started playing drums in my first band. Because I was in the middle of my metal period, we started a symphonic death metal band “Disincarnated” inspired by bands like The Gathering and Paradise Lost. We got our first small gigs and recorded our first demo tape. After “Disincarnated” I played in all sorts of bands, slightly moving from the metal to the rock/pop scene. I also got more and more interested in the piano and after awhile I bought my own piano and took some serious piano-lessons.

About 4 years ago, after I got in contact with Jack Driessen, I got inspired by the whole metal again and specifically the orchestral metal scene. I decided to take one last challenge by writing my own music the way I had in. It took me about 2 years to build the fundaments of Beyond God. How it continued…. you can read in our band bio.
